A giant rubber plant. I have a feeling it didn't burn with a good smell either. Looking up the snake that attacked me at the lake, the library mentions it as a mythical Anaconda, since they don't normally grow that large.
I've never heard of giant plants eating people either.
I've reluctantly left Juliet at Wellspring. Keep her away from the others.
