CHARACTER INFO
CHARACTER NAME: Lavi
SERIES: D.Gray-man
RESERVED: y
WISHLIST: n
PERSONALITY: Lavi has a very friendly, uninhibited personality. He speaks plainly and straight-forwardly, able to get along with virtually anyone he meets. In return, most people he meets get along with him too. Initially this was completely a front, but during his time with the Order, this became part of his real personality. While he's generally a distrusting person, he trusts the fellow Order members with his life.
To be objective, Lavi tends to suppress his emotions. When his friends were badly wounded or killed, the emotions overwhelm him. When that happens, Lavi somewhat loses logical reasoning, preferring to go after his friends or help them out instead of sacrificing one to help the many. In the end, this usually works out, although he's nearly died doing it.
Lavi also has a slight prankish side. When he finds Allen asleep on the train, he draws on Allen's face (badly, at that) and he braids Kanda's hair when he finds him asleep. Similarly, Lavi has the tendency to give people nicknames. Sometimes they're based on the person's actual names, but others are based on appearance or something notable about that person. The nicknames stick and it takes quite a bit to get him to let one go.
Also Lavi has a tendency to not sit still. In fact, sitting still on his feet was a punishment Bookman had given him. His attention, however, can be pretty constant, although it tends to be split among a few things.
While Lavi may appear easy going on the outside, inside he's constantly observing the surroundings and events. His hypersensitivity makes him very aware of everything going on around him, every detail about them, everything in his near surroundings, even during combat. He's able to sort out and recite whatever he's seen or noted. This became useful when searching for a key quickly.
TIMELINE: post-ark, end of manga chapter 135
BACKGROUND: Lavi first joined the Bookman Order at age 6, renouncing any sort of identity he had originally. at 16, he joined the Black Order as an Exorcist. In those 10 years, Lavi had 48 aliases and had recorded countless wars and battles. He came to hate humans for senselessly repeating wars.
When he entered the Order, he took on the alias 49, 'Lavi'. He still believed that he was above humans. He thought this record would be just like the rest of them, no connections, just more ink on the proverbial paper. This record, however, would be slightly different as he was recording the secret war between the Earl and the Order from the front lines as an Exorcist himself. His innocence, Tessei, was formed into a size-shifting hammer which he used to create elemental seals.
Within the first year of his work in the Order, he'd encountered Kanda. The two immediately clashed when Lavi called Kanda “Yuu” after hearing Tiedoll call him that. Kanda nearly killed Lavi except that Lenalee soon interjected and stopped the confrontation.
But over the course of two years, his mind about humans began to change. 'Lavi' was becoming a separate identity from the previous 48 aliases. He was evolving, becoming a compassionate person. He soon found his allies he met in the Order were now irreplaceable. Within this period, Lavi met Allen and soon joined up with him and Lenalee for missions. Lavi knew Allen as the destroyer of time, according to the prophesy, so this was a chance to observe him first hand. He immediately clicked with Allen and was a bit thrown aback when he heard Allen saying he wanted to save Akuma.
Lavi, Allen, Lenalee, and Bookman continued on as a team. They soon stopped in a Romania. When Allen was ambushed by desperate villagers, he missed the train and Lavi was sent after them, suddenly appearing in a barrel behind Allen, effectively spooking the villagers. He and Allen were forced into fighting a vampire, Arystar Krory, and protecting the village. The two Exorcists were spooked out as Arystar barrels out of the castle and tears apart one of the villagers. Despite this, Lavi and Allen entered the castle to find out more about this vampire.
After fighting off man-eating plants, they soon encountered Eliade, Arystar's love, whom Lavi seems temporarily infatuated with. They learned that she's going to bury the recent victim of Arystar in the garden. After blowing a hole in the wall to escape the plants, they found themselves in the graveyard where they learn that all of Arystar's victims are actually Akuma. That's when they encountered Arystar again.
Lavi and Allen were separated, leaving Lavi to fight Arystar. That's when he tries to learn information from Arystar, believing his teeth are actually his Innocence. After some fighting, Lavi sends Arystar through the wall towards where Allen was fighting Eliade. That's when Allen's eye begins to form and projects the soul of the Akuma. Lavi's quite horrified by this. He later confesses to Komui that he finds Allen's view of the world frightening.
When Arystar defeated Eliade, he traveled with them, becoming an Exorcist. The team's next mission was to seek out General Cross in China, well at least that was his last supposed location. On the trainride there, the team ran into Tyki Mikk in his white form, where Lavi learned of Allen's darker, vicious card-playing side. The team soon arrived in China, and at Anita's place, they soon learned that Cross's ship sank somewhere in the ocean, his destination was Edo. Nevertheless, with a team of Order supporters, they set sail to Edo where they were attacked by a swarm of Akuma chasing something huge and white in the sky. Allen and Lenalee set off to save the white thing, which turned out to be a fallen Exorcist named Suman Dark, while Lavi, Krory, and Bookman stay to defend the ship. Lavi fought to defend the ship but was forced to watch huge amounts of power flair up in the distance where Allen was. He couldn't leave to help his friend out.
Lenalee reunited with the team but Allen seems lost. They sought out where Allen fell to a Noah using Timcampy's guidance, only to find that he wasn't there. With Tim's ability to record things, Lenalee and Lavi saw Allen's final moments against Tyki. Lavi blamed himself for not being able to help Allen when he needed it most.
When they returned to the ship, Sammo Han Wong from the Asia Branch greeted them, telling them that Allen cannot go on, seemingly implying that Allen is dead. Miranda took Allen's place in the Exorcists, repaired their ship, and handed them their new, reinforced uniforms.
The trip across the sea wasn't an easy one. Lavi's emotions began to survace and he lost control, driving his hand through a window and yelling at Lenalee to stop crying and continue on. Bookman yelled at him and he regained some composure but the emotions were violently pulling him back and forth, clouding his judgment.
During the travel, the ship was once again, attacked by a swarm of Akuma, this time lead by a Level 3. Lenalee dashed off to fight the Akuma herself, leaving the rest to defend the ship and Miranda. When Lenalee didn't return, Lavi recklessly dashed off after her, despite better judgment and many objections from the crew and his friends. He found Lenalee trapped in a crystal of her own Innocence held by an Akuma. Timcampy's landing on it's head. The team learned that this was an Akuma modified by Cross, and she tells them that Cross is in Edo. Lavi had to bite his emotions and regret for not helping out Lenalee and continue on.
Arriving at Edo, the team is quickly encountered by the Noah and a rather large Akuma. They fight and it's hard. Lavi fought against Tyki, who told Lavi that Allen was still alive. This caused Lavi to recklessly attack Tyki, swearing to kick his ass. He wasn't thinking clearly, which was obvious during the battle. Tyki was essentially throwing him about as a result of attacks. However, in time to save Lavi's life, Kanda appeared to fight off Tyki.
Just in the nick of time, Allen also arrived to fend off the Earl. Lavi was shocked but at the same time, he was completely relieved to see him alive. The Earl called off the Noah and launched a large scale attack to destroy Edo. After surviving, the Exorcists take shelter under a bridge, where Lero pulls Lenalee into the Ark, which was currently being "downloaded" into a new one. Those who tried to help pull Lenalee out of the vortex were also trapped inside the Ark.
The party was confronted, by Tyki, who gives them a challenge. He gave them a key that will lead out of the Ark, but they can only reach the door if they can survive all the Noah who will be trying to stop them. As the party traveled, Lavi watched his allies fight against a Noah who appeared, and then he watched them phase out of reality as the buildings behind them broke away. First was Kanda against Skin Bolic. Then they were attacked by Jasdevi, who trapped them in the library.
Lavi was already hurting, knowing that Kanda had been phased out of existence. Jasdevi blind the remaining team with a paint that caused them to hallucinate many keys across the room and that Jasdevi disappeared. Fortunately, Lavi had seen the real key laying somewhere within the room and had memorized every scratch, pattern, and color on the original key. Using a wind spell, Lavi quickly searched all the keys (wishing he could see out of both eyes to make this quicker) until he found the real one. The remaining party escaped, leaving Krory to fight against the Noah and he too soon disappear edwith the Ark.
The remaining four - Lenalee, Chaoji, Allen, and Lavi - found their way into the remaining tower where they encountered Tyki and Road. Road revealed that this tower was all that remained of the original Ark, and with that Tyki invited them to sit down at the table. Allen did so quite quickly, and the others followed suit. Lavi continued to glare suspiciously at Tyki. Lenalee began to worry, but Lavi reassured Lenalee to put her faith in Allen. That's when Road first toyed with Lavi's mind, speaking to him inside it. Allen became irritated with Tyki and launched an attack across the table.
While Allen was fighting Tyki and the other two were locked into Road's cube, Road decided to play a game with Lavi, trapping him in her dream world. She made a promise with him: if he can beat her in her own game, she'll let them go.
In this world, Lavi was faced with his past self, the Bookman side that was slowly being overtaken by 'Lavi'. With the power of Road's dream world, Bookman overtook Lavi by conjuring images of the people in the Order and sending them to kill Lavi. The emotion was overwhelming. The 'ink' he once wrote in his records was no longer just 'ink'. It represented irreplaceable allies. While he knew they weren't real, just dreams, yet it killed him inside to have to fight the people he called family. And slowly, they stabbed 'Lavi' to death. He fell to the ground of the inner world, losing consciousness.
Now in charge, Bookman attempted to kill Allen while Allen attempted to free Lavi from all of this. However Bookman soon lost control of the body, as Lavi managed to stay conscious by stabbing himself. The pain had kept him awake, therefore preventing Lavi from fading away. In a last ditch effort, Lavi took back control, killing Road in her dream form, and effectively winning.
The single entity named Lavi began to fade away, leaving the Bookman self confused and crying. That's when the two began to talk. Lavi was the one alias who decided to change. The reason why this happened is unclear to him. He asks himself why, and he cannot answer. 'Lavi' leaves Bookman in charge, and the two sides begin to merge into one. He attempted to kill himself with a very powerful Hiban, believing it the only choice he could make, but Allen refused to let that happen, flying into the Hiban and protecting Lavi with his cloak. Lavi had survived and the battle he'd won with himself was relieving. He'd started to find balance between both 49 and the previous aliases.
With Tyki and Road now "dead", the living Exorcists attempted to flee through Road's last door. Allen, however, wants to go back for the now de-Noahed Tyki. Lavi told Allen it was a bad decision, but he knew that Allen would do it anyway. Suddenly the team was attacked by an 'awakened' Tyki, mutated by his Noah power. A ruthless battle ensued between Lavi and Allen against Tyki, destroying their one escape route. They seem to be losing, until General Cross shows up at the last minute, firing a shot at Tyki. The Earl also appeared, taking Tyki away, leaving everyone else to disappear from existence in the Ark. Chaoji fell and Lavi attempted to catch him, but the crumbling floor caused them to fall from existence.
Lavi returned to existence when Allen played the hidden piano, his wish bringing everyone back. In fact, all the Exorcists returned. Lavi was overjoyed to find everyone still alive and well. His emotions were beginning to settle down once again. All the Exorcists returned to the Order, thanks to Allen's playing the piano once again, where they were greeted with a huge welcome home party and promptly treated by the Order's medical staff.
ABILITIES:
* photographic memory. Lavi remembers everything he sees, feels, hears, and reads. Ot's one of the reasons he was selected to be a Bookman's Successor. He records every detail and is capable of picking an object he's seen out of a pile of similar objects with relative ease and speed.
* first aid. lavi learned first aid skills from bookman on their travels across the world. His exact proficiency is unknown, but he's been shown to know how to make antidotes for poison, bandage and treat wounds, and care for bumps and bruises.
* listening to a multitude of people talking at the same time and being able to sort out each conversation and understand each one. Lavi listened to multiple transmissions within the Order and was able to sort out each one individually. The anime mentions this as an ancient Asiatic technique Bookman had beat into his head.
* reading and memorizing books very fast. Lavi can read encyclopedia-size books overnight
* Innocence. As an Exorcist, Lavi's compatible with Tessei, which he's dubbed the Size-Shifting Hammer. It does just that: shift sizes. He can also use it to cast elemental seal spells. He currently knows fire spells, defensive wind spells, and heaven spells which can control the weather. He has several other seals which he has not shown their abilities. He's also proficient in combat simply involving a hammer or a staff.
* Martial arts skills. Lavi's shown strong proficiency in fighting close combat with just a small knife (dream world) and a staff (attack on the Order). Lavi is proficient in martial arts in general, as seen when he fights Allen in the Ark.
* multi-lingual. While Lavi generally speaks English, he's spoken other languages before.
* appearing out of nowhere. Lavi has a strange ability to seemingly appear out of nowhere. He does this several times, appearing behind a stack of books, in a barrel, and randomly in a hallway. It is unknown how he does this.
* somewhat of a sixth sense of place. As Lavi always has one eye covered, he seems to have developed a sense of what's near him on his left side in his one blind spot, almost like having a phantom eye. He was able to sense someone attempting to sneak up on him several times and seems to always know who's standing on that side without looking. The sense may also give him the illusion of having good depth perception. This sense isn't infallible, however, and has failed him a few number of times, especially when dealing with inhuman objects like attacks or projectiles

EDENSPHERE NAME: Rabbit
BIRTHDAY LOG: "In amnesiac fishbowl, crystals mine you" yes!
DREAM: "I want to know the secret," he said, watching the clouds float by as the wind rustled the golden grass.
"You shall soon know," a voice told him, as the world seemingly stretched about the small red-head like a Dali painting. The boy began to stretch as well, and he soon found himself quite tall and in a strange place. Books were everywhere. Papers littered the floor. He sat on a couch with someone but he couldn't tell who.
"Hey." It was that voice from before. Someone nudged him. "Hey ______" The name was fuzzy but it was definitely his. What was it anyway? It was so close yet so far away.
"That's your name now. Forget about the old one." What old one? What was going on? He felt lost until something silver came into view. Silver hair. Long black hair. A few others. Black uniforms and silver crosses. He knew them. They were family. "You're our ally now, ______." "Che, stupid Rabbit." "Don't mind him. He does that to everyone." He was with them, allies, fighting along side with fire and wind, hammer in hand.
They were there, yet he felt distanced, as though he couldn't be with them, only observe them, watch them from a distance, watching their history. "I can only watch."
The figures vanished. They ascended the stairs while he found himself falling away from them.
Falling somewhere dark. He was lost, drowning. Drowning in the darkness, losing part of himself. But that hand, that white cloak was there to bring him back to the world, back to reality. Back to something. Back into the light.
JOURNAL SAMPLE: Well I finally have a place to live. Not bad at all. And better yet, Silver-chan's right down the hall.
Yanno, nothin' like an intro to the job. Had some guy come in after eatin' some'a those coins. He was still in that T-shirt 'n pants like the ones I got from Silver-chan when I first got here. Had to give him some gum to keep him from wretchin' his guts out. Man, I don't think I'll ever get that image outta my head.
ASPIRATIONS: I'd like to have him find his Tessei, his size-shifting hammer. since it's his innocence, he should be able to make it shift size, right? not really for fighting but more for traveling because it's lulzy.
he'd also like paints or something similar so he can draw on people when they sleep X3
and could cross/allen be his birthday greeter? plz?
